What Facial Service Treatments Do Some Dentists Provide?

Dentist Blog

When we think of going to a dentist, it is common to only think of the care he provides to keep the teeth looking healthy and clean. However, some dentists provide additional care that not only keeps the teeth looking healthy, but also improves the appearance of the smile and often the entire face. These services are sometimes performed in what is known as dental spas.

These are some of the facial treatment services that some dentists provide.

Botox Injection Treatments

Botox injection treatments are done by injecting a neurotoxin product into various areas of the face. These injections paralyze the nerves of the muscles in the skin so that there is now no movement that would otherwise allow the skin to sag, and become more wrinkled. Botox injection treatments also help reduce tiny lines and wrinkles so that the skin has a more youthful appearance. However, Botox treatments can have medical benefits as well. Dentists often perform this treatment to help reduce the pain and frequency of migraines, as well as to help relieve pain for those patients who suffer from temporomandibular disorder.

Skin Rejuvenation Treatments

Some dentists who perform facial services also provide skin rejuvenation treatments. Skin rejuvenation may include chemical peels, microdermabrasion, or intense light pulse therapy. These treatments can help make skin look younger and feel softer. This treatment may also be used to treat hyperpigmentation, rosacea, spider veins, broken capillaries, freckles, and age spots.

Reshaping of Facial Bones

If a patient has an abnormally shaped jawbone, palate, or gum line, a dentist may be able to correct this problem as well. For instance, the dentist may use special headgear, braces, or other dental appliances to change the shape of or realign the gums, jaw, or palate. This can not only make the face have a more attractive appearance, but it also can help ensure the gums and mouth are in a better position to make chewing and talking much easier to do. Depending on the severity of the abnormality, dental surgery may or may not be necessary.

As each individual may have different needs, there is no guarantee that the condition of the face or mouth can be improved by a dentist. However, it is a good idea to have a consultation with your dentist first to find out if he can help. The dentist may be able to make improvements through an easier, less invasive form of treatment.
