What Are Your Options for Fixing Gaps Between Your Teeth?

Dentist Blog

If you have gaps between your teeth, you may be self conscious and hesitant to smile. Thankfully, there are many cosmetic dentistry services that can fix this issue. Here are some different options to help you figure out which route is the best for your situation.

Dental Bonding

If you only have slight gapes between two or three teeth, dental bonding is a good option. This procedure is a very affordable cosmetic option, since small gaps between two teeth can cost about $100 to $300. If you have many gaps, then the dental bonding price will, of course, increase. Besides the lower cost, dental bonding is great for those who want a quick fix. The procedure doesn't hurt and can be done in one visit. Your dentist will clean your teeth, add a rough etching gel to promote adhesion of the bonding material, then apply the bonding composite directly to your teeth to disguise the gap.

Veneers

Like dental bonding, veneers can be bonded to your teeth to disguise gaps. There are some differences between the two, however. Veneers are much more pricey and you'll need a couple of visits to complete the procedure. While dental bonding material can be shaped in office by your dentist, veneers need to be shaped in a laboratory and then applied at another visit.

So why would you get veneers instead of dental bonding? If you have many other problems along with your gaps—such as crookedness and discoloration—the veneers can cover up all these issues. If you have many gaps between your teeth, then the cost of the veneers could compare to dental bonding. However, since veneers are made in a lab, they will typically look nicer than hand-applied dental bonding.

Damon Braces

If the gaps between your teeth also cause functional problems, like affecting talking and chewing, braces may be the way to go. Some dental plans cover braces and other plans consider them to be a cosmetic procedure, so you will need to double-check before proceeding.

Damon braces are a great way to fix your gaps quickly. In fact, one study says that patients who used Damon braces were able to get their braces off about six months earlier than those with traditional braces. Furthermore, Damon braces are practically invisible, but they work more quickly than Invisalign trays. Lastly, Damon braces are self-ligating braces, meaning that elastics and metal ties aren't need—special brackets pull the arch wire slowly into place. This means that these braces are also more comfortable than traditional braces, which have to be adjusted a lot at the dental office.

As you can see, there are many great options at your disposal to help you fix gaps in your smile. Visit a local cosmetic dentistry for more information.
